Fear of God

"Mountain of Power" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  As I mentioned in an earlier post God is always there, it's up to you whether or not you are, indeed the times in my life when things do not go well, the times when I screw up are the times when I do things that I know in my heart, in my gut are not right but I somehow always justify it and go ahead and listen to my ego instead of listening to God, listening to my heart.  God is always there and God always loves you. When I was very young and innocent I would hear people talk about the "Fear of God" and I never understood, how can anyone be afraid of one that gives you total and unconditional love?  God is not mean nor vengeful, nor will He ever hurt you, so how could one be afraid?  It is only when one gets away from God, when YOU leave Him, when YOU lose sight of his love that fear can grip your heart, that indescribable loneliness of being without God.  That is the real fear, not the fear of God but the fear of not being with God.   God will always love you and care for you, He will put you where you belong and will bless you with the challenges and rewards you need.  They may not always be what you want but they will be what you should have, and these, no matter what they are you should accept with love as they were given with love.

Season of Rememberance

"Psychedelic Cabin" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  Now that the winter with it's cold and short days are here so it is a time to remember all the people and friends we know and have known, and all our family far and near.  Many of us are busy searching for a gift, writing card and making phone calls - but if none of that gets done the main purpose this season is remembering, remembering and thinking of each of them, of their personality and presence, their essence - but of course this is the season  most of all to remember God and Christ.

Happy Thanksgiving

"In The Grain" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  We all have problems, the world has problems and there are some problems we may not be able to solve but there are many more that can be solved and that is one thing alone worth giving thanks for - the blessing of being given problems that can be solved.  The blessing of having health, wits and family and friends to support and care for you, the blessing of having available to you the resources to get the problems solved.  Not all problems can be solved and not all people have all these things at the same time but they are there or can be there because of the greatest reason to give thanks of all - the blessings of God.

A Blessing To Help

"In The Groove" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  The other day I was downtown and was sitting outside at a sidewalk cafe with some time to kill.  I was watching the city scene before me when I noticed a couple of different things.  There was an old man that seemed to have a bit of trouble walking obviously due to his age. At one point he almost stumbled against a woman who gave him a look of disgust and quickly moved away in case he needed to lean on her, she obviously would rather he fall than to touch her.  At a nearby table a young man saw this and with a look of happy anticipation he quickly rose to take the old mans arm and give him that moment of help he needed.  Two things were clear:  the act of rendering help to the woman was something that was distasteful and a unwanted burden to her, while it was plain that to the young man the act of rendering aid was not only a joy but a blessing.  And indeed it is - to be able to help another of God's creatures, man or animal, is indeed a blessing, for when you help His creatures you're helping Him. And that is a blessing.

Blessed by An Angel

"The Lamp" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  The tale I am about to tell is one that needs to be told, one that I have told in the past and one that needs to be told over and over again. This story is absolutely true and is about a little boy or an angel -  you be the judge

In the 1950s in Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles there was a whole floor, the fourth floor devoted to children that were dying of heart trouble.  In those days doctors did not have the knowledge, procedures and medicines of today - they just were not invented yet, the iron lung (there was a room full of them just down the hall we were never allowed in) along with some of the first antibiotics and the fluoroscope were state of the art technology then.  For most of us, the lucky ones, there was only one hope - an experimental operation that could give us a chance at life and the doctors a chance to learn something that might help someone else.  Open heart surgery and the heart lung machine was just being developed, and was often used in these experimental surgeries and with each use something new was learned.  In those days they operated on one child a day, Monday through Friday, and by Friday  night, oftentimes all five children were dead.  We, the children understood this and for the most part accepted this the best we could.  You grow up rather fast in many ways and you learn several things - you learn to fight, you learn to have faith, faith in your parents, faith in your doctors but most of all you have faith in God.

It was fall 1958 when I was in this time for a rather extended period of time.  In those days there were four beds to a room and as kids easily do you soon became friends with your roommates, at least the ones that were well enough.  (You can always tell the really sick kids, they don't cry, they mostly lay staring or are unconscious).  I was almost nine and there was a kid in one of the other beds that I immediately struck up a friendship with.  He was a lively little boy of about six or so with dark hair and a ready grin and easy laugh. Even though he was dying he loved to pull jokes on the nurses, or sneak out of bed and go for wheelchair rides or go into other rooms ( a BIG no-no) and talk to the kids and sing Yankee Doodle to them, a song that he just loved. It was obvious how much he loved everyone and was he was always concerned with them, not just how they were feeling physically but how they were inside, in their spirit and heart.  He was always going to the the one that was having heart surgery that next day and somehow he had a way of calming a soul.  I remember a little dark haired little girl of about eight in the next ward that was having surgery the next morning, her parents were gone and she was terrified.  He went to her (I know the nurses had to know he was there out of not just his bed but his room) and spent most of the night in there singing Yankee Doodle to her, a song he was constantly singing, sometimes annoyingly so, until she finally was graced with some calmness and got a little sleep.  She died the next morning during surgery.
It is those after hours that can get to you in a children's hospital, the time after visiting hours when your parents are gone, when the hum of hospital life has slowed down and the lights are dimmed in the wards with only the light from florescent tubes in the hallways reflecting off the pale yellow walls. It can be lonely and terrifying but I never heard him complain or talk about himself, his only focus was others. I got to go home for a couple of months just before Christmas, and I never saw him again but my mother later told me his story, a short story, a story he never got a chance to live out but a story that was filled with God and Grace.
He was dropped off at the hospital by his parents, who lived two miles from the hospital, sometime in June or July.  They never came to see him or contacted him in any way, they left him to die.  He died right after Christmas.
As one of the lucky ones that survived, you soon get caught up in the whirlwind of life, of living that life you were graced with. As the decades go by and I think back and I realize that even though his name is lost, the calmness of spirit that he gave you, the lessons by example on how life should be lived to the ready smile and laugh, but most of all that voice singing Yankee Doodle and I know my life was blessed by an angel!

Beauty Of The Creator

" In The Groove" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez- Today's happy thought is the beautiful weather most of us are having this time of year, even though as usual there are some places that are going through weather hell and to those we want to keep in our prayers and our charitable giving.  Each time of year, each season indeed each day has it's own particular beauty in some unique way then it, like the weather and perhaps because of the weather changes.  The beauty is always there if one can see it but it can be impossible to see it if you're the one in the storm.  Life it seems is a living analogy of this; it is filled with beauty IF you are not the one in the storm at the moment and like the weather there is always a storm SOMEWHERE at the moment, be it a natural disaster like an earthquake or some sort of a karma quake like a war or a new level of social evolution like the industrial age.  It is when we are graced with fair weather and fair times that we can relax and contemplate not only the beauty we were given but the beauty of the creator.

Spinning Fall In

"Stormy Night" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy Sez-  Today we hit the equinox and summer officially gives way to fall with cooler temps and shorter days.  The softer light of fall sheds it's own special grace over the landscape of not just our world but our mind as well, cooling the frantic thoughts of summertime with the slower and softer thinking of day filled with falling leaves and hot cider.  And so it keeps on spinning. Thank God

Grace of the Gift

"Color Lightning" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez- With Labor Day over and the heat of summer starting to abate it is a beautiful time of year in many parts of the world, in other areas the change of the season has brought some terrible weather.  For those that are having such a bad time our prayers go out to you and our helping hand should be extended to you as well.

It is with the joy of a lucky fool that I live this day given to me in beauty and received in gladness. I only hope that I have enough good sense to make use of this fine day in a way which will honor my creator - giving thanks for the grace of the gift of this day.

Tribalism vs. Globalism

"Pinwheel" by Drew John tankersley

Happy sez- Today is another beautiful late summer day full of happy colors, happy sounds and sights so it is not always easy to think of things that may at first seem rather unhappy, a bit dry perhaps, a bit boring and quite scary but think of these things we must sooner or later; life will force us to and it is better we do it sooner rather than later when we have no choice.  The great thing is that after we discuss these types of topics we have a MUCH better chance of solving our problems and the problems of our society, living a happy life filled again with happy colors, thoughts, sound, shapes and people.

While everything in the universe including life goes though cycles, life seems to always have not only it's good times but it's times of trouble and strife.  Throughout history doomsayers have always cried these are the last days - sometimes even going so far as to name the date and time as in next Wednesday at 2:00 - but even though it may seem like the end of it all, life goes on and the blessings and problems do not stop.  There is however times in history when these cycles seem to peak and ebb and now seems to be one of those pivotal moments when several cycles are peaking at about the same time bringing more strife and problems than usual.

One of these important cycles that appears to be peaking now, one that NO ONE is talking about, one we should all be discussing and that is the on going evolutionary battle between two of the most basic, most primal forces guiding not just ourselves and our society but most life on this planet - and that  is the contrasting and contradictory forces of Tribalism and Globalism.

ACHIEVING EVOLUTIONARY EQUILIBRIUM OF TRIBALISM VS. GLOBALISM

Most animals, especially social animals are tribal in nature -  they have their own territory, their own habits, the more social ones including humans form their own colonies, herds, flocks, schools, pods, packs - their

Happy Thoughts Coloring Your Background

"John's Squares" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  In every day and in every age people can be heard to say "these are troubled times" and they are right they are troubled - all times are troubled,  it's the way of the world and the way of life.  There are, however certain times that are more troubles than others and there are certain times that are the turning points of history and will set the stage for that which will come, be it good or ill.  When those times are reached you will know.  This is one of those times.  Try to live with reason, knowledge and wisdom.  Try to live with slow, deliberate and reasoned actions filled with kindness and compassion.  Try to live with happy thoughts coloring the background of your life. The Troubles will lessen.

Off We Go

"Summer Breeze" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  With summer still in full swing there is still time to swing across the ol' swimming hole on a rope and tire - dropping with a cool splash into the water below.  It may be hard to think of now but in many places in the country in about five or six months that swimming hole will be used for ice skating.  The constant cycles of nature are producing patterns among which fall follows summer and winter follows fall each day a little shorter than the last and each night a little longer than the last and so it goes until the cycle repeats and the pattern repeats.  So off we go following the cycles and patterns of our universe and our lives and off we go to being forever blessed with renewal and rebirth.

Nothing Easy but Trouble

"Cindy's Afternoon Storm" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez- Ever notice how some people seem to go through life always hitting the green lights and getting the best parking spots? Me either.  I guess some people live a charmed life but I don't know too many, if any that do.  There are times when some people seem to have it all and enjoy it but if you look deeper I think you'll find that most everyone has their troubles and problems.  That doesn't mean life is not full of joy, love and beauty - it is but that also doesn't mean that most important things come easy.  Years ago when in collage I worked for some nice folks who had a LOT of money and two young sons a little older than I.  These guys seemed to have it all- they were nice guys, rich, beautiful cars, boats and girls around them all the time and didn't seem to have a care in the world.  Years latter I stopped by one of their old businesses and asked about them, one had died of  a bad liver at a young age, the other committed suicide. Just goes to show you nothing in this world comes easy but trouble.

It's Still Turning

'Mitisos" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez- The world is still turning the last time I looked out my window and I haven't fallen off yet even though I've had a pretty loose grip at times.  Summer now is in it's prime but I notice the days are getting a bit shorter so we know the promise of fall will be fulfilled at it's appointed time.  Now is the time however to enjoy the hot, bright, sunny days and long soft evenings before the leaves turn and the long soft evenings turn to a short twilight and the quite peace of night.

The Freedom of Anonymity

"Bright Comet Night" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez- A friend and I were talking the other day about the difference of living in the city and out in the country away from a town.  I have lived in both settings and their is a lot of things different; some aspects of city life are good and some aspects of county life is good - they both have their good and bad sides like most everything else.  Their is one thing that is different that most people don't think of and that is anonymity.  When you live in a small town or out in the boonies you still have to go into a small town to do business and people in a small town or people out in the boonies will always know what is going on around them including who is doing what where and to whom.  In a city no one knows who you are or cares.  In a way,  that is kind of cold but in another way there is kind of a peacefulness in being anonymous, a freedom in not having to worry what people will say or think.  The concern that people have for you in a rural setting is a wonderful gift and blessing and it is I think, for the most part, real but it is not always and that can be more hurtful than someone who doesn't know you and don't care.  Country or city - those that love you will love you in either setting and those that don't  won't.  In either case God is there because He is always with you!

Truth - Society's Cleaner

" Stormy Night" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  .  It is nice to talk about happy things, colors and times yet in life the talk can not always be happy if it is truthful and now is the time for truth.  We are blessed with a nice summer this year, a time of happiness and joy but it seems we are taking those blessings and ignoring them so we can pursue our human ambition of self destruction.  We as individuals and as a species lie and cheat, hurt and destroy, kill others and disrespect our creator all for the lust not of money but of power, the power that some feel they must have over their fellow man and our universe. As like seems to attract like so does it seem bullies attract one another and begin to form bonds that will eventually turn into a government then into tyranny. Unlike a God given right which is granted to us individually and directly from God the illegitimate and false power of a bully does not come from God and is not a right that they have been granted as many bullies in the form of Pharaohs, monarchs and rulers have claimed.  The only way to have a society and government that is moral and does not turn to tyranny is that the people that make up that society to be truthful, honest and moral for  tyranny cannot live in a moral society  Truth to a bully is like sunshine, soap and hot water is to something that is dirty.  Our society is filled with the politically correct lies of bullies and in order to be free and remain free we MUST stand up to and clean out those bullies with the truth.

Middle of Summer

"The Point" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez- Here we are in the middle of summer already and another beautiful day in many parts of this nation.  This is the time of year of travel, daydreams and ice cream - what more can you ask!  With the long, soft summer evenings it seems as though summer is a slower time, a more relaxed time even with all the people out and about.  What are you doing with your summer?  Relaxing or running? Thank God and Have a Happy Fourth of July!

"Bright Comet Night" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  As I said last year today we celebrate one of the happiest days ever for the human race -  the birth of AMERICA !!  This is a day the whole of the human race can stand proud and hopeful for it was on this day 240 years ago that a group of people proclaimed that they did not need a king to give them their rights - as their rights, indeed all rights, come directly and individually from God.  It was because of this extraordinary realization that people are created free and equal that was the reason the United States was founded and that realization is perhaps one of God's greatest Graces.  Thank God and Have a Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Traveling!

"In The Grain" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  The beautiful, hot summer is here - a time when things grow and a time to go, to go and see what's over that hill and around that bend.  Each day when we travel through the time our life is lived in we see a new sight, we go up and down the hills and around the bends in our lives, but in the summer, with it's long days and soft nights travel across the land our lives are lived in is not only easier but  I also find that with the new scenery that summer brings comes new roads in my mind. Happy traveling!

Yes Has No Power

"Color Lightning" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  It's seems of late that a lot of topics I am posting about are not the happy, light topics that are fun to talk and think about, but the world is made up of a little of everything, some of which are fun and some of which are serious.  One consolation is that if we talk about, pay attention to and take care of the serious side of life then we will be able to devote more of our time to the fun things!  The other day I heard someone on, I believe the radio, say something the I thought was profound yet obvious once it is pointed out. The subject was the bureaucracy and reasons why all the massive and burdensome rules and regulations before you can do the simplest thing.   I wish I could remember who said it and give them credit for it, if any of my readers know who originally said this I would love to know so please leave a comment and let me know! It might have been a person running for office, perhaps on a local level. The reason is quite simple -  there is no power in yes.  Power is only created by and brought into existence when someone has the ability to tell someone else no. No has power, yes does not - really quit simple.  That is why governments and especially bureaucracies grow not only in size but power.  That is why they cannot stop growing, almost like a progressive cancer left unchecked it will grow and progress until that is the only thing left, until all else is chocked out.  Not a pleasant subject, cancer - either in your physical body nor in your body politic but like a medical cancer early detection is best, the sooner you are aware of it the sooner you can cure yourself.  And that is a Happy Thing!

The Lie That is Racism

"John"s Squares" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  Much is said about the evils of racism, a type of lie and not a happy topic - evil never is.  Most people condemn racism of all types and rightly so, but because we as individuals and a society may say it is evil, that does not explain why it is evil.  I believe that there is a moral force much like the other forces of the universe and that moral force manifests itself as moral laws. Lies are evil and lies like racism which is one of the worst types of lies violates those moral laws granted to us by our creator.  While evil is not a happy topic the  knowledge that the lies of racism cannot stand any more than someone walking off a cliff can stand in mid air is a happy thought and I will leave you with that.

Algorithm for Life

" Jungle River" by Drew John Tankersley
Happy sez- When I was young, math or more accurately arithmetic, was never a favorite of mine and even though I haven't multiplied a fraction in years there are many of the basic ideas and philosophies of everyday life embedded in mathematics that makes me wish I had a better working knowledge of that language, the language of the universe, for within that language is much beauty and truth.  In mathematics an algorithm, I believe can be defined as a series of steps to reach a goal, something that I think we all need and we need to learn to keep it valid while we are constantly changing not only our goal in our ever changing life but also the steps to reach that changing goal.  Not only when we are young but all through our lives we not only may not know what goal we are chasing but life, a part of the universe is always changing and many times that change affects our goal as well.  We all need an algorithm for life that can be as fluid as our own lives.

And So Will We

"Vibrant Earth" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  Sometimes and this is one of them, it seems that this world has gone crazy.  The buildings are still upright and gravity still seems to be working but there is one species on this planet that seems to be infected with some kind of  mental illness.  This isn't the first time that this species, the human species, has gone through these cycles of this recurring disease, and one can only hope that this is the last time and the cycle will somehow be broken.  While we seem to be at the apex there are encouraging signs that the pendulum is starting it's swing back. Let me leave you with this Happy Thought - Remember this world is just a small part of this universe and the universe has a way of finding balance.  And so will we.

Frustration and Impatience

"Cindy's Afternoon Storm" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  Last post we talked a little bit about frustration, a large and well, frustrating subject -  but we did not talk about some of the related things that often accompany or surround frustration.  While these things can number in the many and are dependent on the situation and can come and go, I think one of the foremost of these things is impatience.  Impatience is very often accompanied by frustration.  One, I believe, can create the other, almost in a self-perpetuating cycle. Slow down or stop one side and you stop the cycle, one of those things that is easy to say but very often hard to do.  One might try to take oneself out of the cycle by changing the frame of reference, the reality, in which that cycle exists.  If your impatience then know and expect that things are going to frustrate you and by knowing that in advance it allows you to say  I'm going to be frustrated and that gives you the opportunity to deal with it before it happens, then the cycle is starting to break.

A Frustrating Post!

"Stormy Night" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  Frustration is an interesting phenomena, it comes in all types, degrees and sources.  It can be big or small, devastating or, well just frustrating. Sometimes frustration will come often, all day long, one thing after another - nothing big you understand - but never stopping, you go to get something, it's not there, you go to get some back up and it's empty, your pen is out of ink and you get another one, but it breaks as soon as you use it.  See what I mean, It never seems to end.  Then there are the big things, the life threatening things - getting your cancer treated only to find you have heart trouble, getting your heart worked on then finding you have kidney failure.  So it's true frustration can come in many ways, in many forms but if we take it in stride, as well as we can, and not allow the frustration of being frustrated to get to us, then we'll be the better for it  And if we can do that, that will be good.

Taxes and Civility

"Soft Green" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  Oliver Wendell Holmes jr., I believe once said "Taxes are what we pay for civilized society'', and if that is true then I think we are losing ground.  Taxes were a lot less in the past hundred even twenty-five years and society was a lot more civilized a hundred or even twenty-five years ago.  If a cowboy came back from the "Wild West"  a hundred years ago he would be horrified at the wanton violence, the violence for violence sake and the low value on life we have in todays modern world, and he would also be horrified at the amount of money, and control, the government extracts from you and exerts over you.  These thoughts, while not happy are true and the only way to make them happy is to do something about it, and doing something positive is a happy thought!

Just thought that this painting "Soft Green" is somehow appropriate for this post.

A Moment to Reflect

"Jungle Temple" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez- Hope everyone took a moment yesterday on the first of May to reflect on the joy of spring, a time of rebirth and beauty, a time to celebrate the light of life, not the darkness and death of socialism and communism.  May this nation and this people be worthy of those continued blessings.

Life is as Precious as Unique

"Color Lightning" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  Happy time, time for the happy dance of joy for the warm days and cool nights of spring.  The time of wildflowers and cute, cuddly baby animals is here and so the cycle of the universe and the Earth; indeed the cycle of life continues. In this uncivilized civilization of ours it is easy to forget or ignore not only the cycles of the Earth but Earth itself because so many of us are not out and about on the Earth but instead we are in the cities.  We also ignore one other aspect of those cycles and that is that each life in those cycles is unique and each life, human or not, is as precious as unique.  Even though that life may be the life of a terrible dictator not precious to us at all it is still most likely precious to God, that is why we in our society that we give condemned people a decent and respectable burial. But enough of this happy talk, go enjoy the day!

Wisdom of Wayne

"Bright Comet Night" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez- Another beautiful day here in the great American southwest, the sun is shining and the temperatures are mild.  This day is, as I believe John Wayne said, clean and ready for us to fill it with whatever we choose.  I hope I choose wisely!

Speed of Life: Speed of Time

"Busy Day" by Drew John Tankersley

Happy sez-  One can almost feel the pick-up in the tempo of life with life always seeming to move at a faster pace in the spring and summer months. The pace of life starts to speed up with the first thawing of winter and in that moment of springs birth the movement of life starts accelerating to the fast frenzy of summer.  The warmer sun and the long days of sunlight not only seem to drive the physical engines of life here on Earth but the emotional and spiritual side of life seems to bloom as well as the flowers of the field.   Relish the Warmth!
Here's a couple of questions - Is the speed of the cycle different from the speed of time within that cycle?  Is the speed of life the same as the speed of time?
