Black Friday's Season

"Anxiety" by Drew John Tankersley
Happy sez - The time has come again in this nation to celebrate the glories of Christmas and celebrate  we do in many different ways.  We have many parties, visits with  friends and family, parades, we decorate our homes and towns and have all kinds of special events, but most of all I think our biggest way to celebrate Christmas is giving gifts.  All these celebrations are a great thing and bring many people much joy and
happiness, but they also bring much stress and anxiety, and I think gift giving  is probably the most stressful of all.  You have to try to make sure no one is forgotten, make sure every gift is appropriate and most of all you must pay for the gifts you give and that can add a lot of stress to not only the budget but to the entire family's emotional well-being, masking not only the joy of the season but the reason for the season.  Gift giving has lost its function as a method of celebration and has instead become a vast feeding frenzy of mindless material wants celebrating nothing and while it gives a boost to the economy, the economy is geared up for that artificial need, instead of truly reflecting the year-long needs of  society.  I wonder if it would be better if we gave a little less gifts and a little more love, stress a little less over material things and maybe a little more reflection of what this is all about, perhaps less stress might be the greater gift rather than a shiny new whatever.  I wonder if we'll soon be wishing everybody a Happy Black Friday with a gift and a card!  What do you think?  What is really more important, the fact that Christ lived and lives or a new toy?  Let me know what you think and what your gift plans are this year.
